ITIL 4 Foundation
What is ITIL?
ITIL is the short version of Information Technology Infrastructure Library and represents detailed best practices for IT Service Management with the ultimate goal of aligning IT Services with the needs of any business.
ITIL talks about processes, procedures, tasks, and checklists, but keep in mind that these are neither organization-specific nor technology-specific. Simply put the previously mentioned are applied by an organization towards strategy, delivering value, and maintaining a minimum level of competency.
The organization will benefit from implementing ITIL best practices by establishing a baseline from which it can plan, implement, and measure.
Want to talk about popularity?
ITIL is the most widely accepted approach to running effective IT services and has been adopted by individuals and organizations worldwide. ITIL will come in handy in identifying the direction of the service provider with a strong and concise operating model and also aligns services to the business strategy and customer needs.
What is ITIL 4 Foundation?
Now that we have an idea of what ITIL is, let us dive in and understand what ITIL 4 Foundation is.
Just as the name represents, it is nothing else but the main pillar of a larger picture. It does not mean that it is useless but rather think about it as the beginning of a long journey.
ITIL 4 Foundation will empower candidates to look at IT service management through an end-to-end operating model for the creation, delivery and continual improvement of tech-enabled products. In a nutshell, you will be introduced to key elements, terminology and concepts of ITIL.
There was life before ITIL 4, its predecessor was ITIL v3 Foundation but since we live in a time of continuous change, in 2019, late February, Axelos launched ITIL 4.
I am ITIL v3 already Certified, what now?
If your existing or future employer does not require the ITIL 4 certification, you are in luck and do not need to worry, else you will have to pass the exam as there isn’t a method based on credits to “upgrade”.
You can think of this as a benefit though because, according to Axelos, there is a large amount of new material in ITIL 4 Foundation:
- Seven guiding principles and four dimensions of ITIL-Based Service Management
To sum up, there are definitely more exciting things to learn and benefit from but if you are already certified don’t start worrying, at least for now!
I am not ITIL certified at all, should I even consider it?
If you are looking for a job, you must have noticed the “preferable”, “desirable”, “nice-to-have” before the certification. Sooner or later these expressions will turn into “required” or “mandatory” so why wait?
In addition to that if 2 employees will apply for the same job, with the same level of experience but with the difference that one of them is certified, the non-certified candidate will start with the left foot.
Of course, there’s a saying that experience beats education but it’s not applicable for entry/mid-level job you are looking for so start studying.
It isn’t that difficult, as any other exam, it involves studying, practicing and eventually repeat these two.
The exam comes with 40 questions out of which you are required to get 28 right, 70%.
In order to study, you need a book and for practicing, you need similar questions as the ones you will find in the exam, verified by IT professionals, of course.
At, IT Life Club, you can find them both so, what are you waiting for?
What do I get out of this?
By becoming ITIL 4 Foundation certified, you can also expect to increase your salary prospects, speak a “global” language in order to communicate efficiently with other ITSM professionals and deliver value by understanding how services are delivering value in any organizations.
Practice with us today and get certified in no time!
